Gambia seeks OIC support to solve Rohingya crisis

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad (MoFA), would like to inform the general public that Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations of Member – States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at its 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC held in Dhaka, from 5-6 May 2018 unanimously adopted The Gambia’s proposed resolution for the establishment of an OIC ad hoc committee on accountability for human rights violations against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar.

The high level Meeting was held under the theme “Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace and Development.” The Gambian delegation was headed by the Minister of Justice, Aboubacar Tambedou, who deputised for the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ousainou Darboe.

The delegates reaffirm full solidarity with Bangladesh in the face of the huge Rohingya influx coupled with humanitarian and security consequences for the country. Delegates expressed appreciation to the Member States who have taken immediate action and delivered humanitarian aid to the camps in Bangladesh and further called for more assistance from all the Member States to enable Bangladesh cope with the flow of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar into its territories.
