The Gambia has survived a nerve-wrecking post- match penalties to sail through to the group stages of the Afcon 2021 qualifiers last night.

The Scorpions found themselves trailing Djibouti after the visitors converted an early penalty. They could not however hold to the massive advantage under a barrage of assaults from the Gambians who were rewarded with a hard fought equalizer when Aboulie Jallow executed a clinical finish to give the host a lifeline just before the break.

The second half with both sides living in uncertainty that naturally led to the tie- breaking penalties.

The spot kicks themselves added to suspense and heart rending anxiety as both sides kept grabbing and then losing advantage. In the end, The Gambia prevailed with the very last kick that finally settled the tie 3-2 with Aboulie Jallow the hero again.

The victory now means The Gambia has reached the group stages of the Afcon qualifiers where Gabon, DR Congo and Angola wait in Group D.

It also means the country can regroup, reposition and prepare for the big boys all the way to group deciders in 2021.
