The Gambia will host one of Africa’s most influential youth gatherings, as 500 young people from across the continent convene for the Youth Impact Summit on Saturday at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara (SDK) International Conference Center.

The Youth Impact Summit is a continental platform designed to uplift, empower, and connect young Africans who are actively driving social, economic, and political change in their communities. The summit will bring together youth leaders, students, activists, and entrepreneurs, alongside investors, philanthropists, government officials, and development partners.

Fatou Camara, Executive Director of the Youth Impact Summit, said the event is designed to move beyond dialogue and deliver real opportunities for Africa’s youth.

“The Youth Impact Summit is more than just a gathering; it is a movement for action. We are creating a space where young Africans can connect directly with decision-makers, access opportunities, and gain the visibility they deserve,” she said.

This year’s event aims to foster collaboration, unlock funding opportunities, and spotlight youth-led initiatives that are shaping Africa’s future. The summit will feature a dynamic programme that includes youth business pitch sessions, networking, engagement with investors and philanthropists, roundtable discussions with political youth leaders, breakout sessions on leadership, innovation, activism, and entrepreneurship among others.

“Our goal is to ensure that young people leave the summit inspired, empowered, and equipped with tangible connections that can transform their ideas into action,” Fatou added.

The event will also witness the official launch of Atiken Magazine, a new Pan-African publication celebrating Africa’s exceptional youth. Atiken, which means “a fighter for a good cause” in the Jola language, is led by Fatou as Editor-in-Chief. The magazine is dedicated to amplifying the voices and journeys of Africa’s most inspiring young change makers.

The debut issue features 10 outstanding African youth leaders, with Dr. Satang Nabaneh of The Gambia appearing as the cover personality. Other honorees include Lamin Jafuneh, Soulayman Ange of Senegal, and Faidatou Ouseni of Côte d’Ivoire.

According to Fatou, Atiken tells the stories that matter—the raw, real, and inspiring journeys of Africa’s youth.

The launch of Atiken Magazine at the Youth Impact Summit highlights the strong alignment between both initiatives—empowering young Africans, amplifying their voices, and positioning them at the center of Africa’s development narrative.

According to Fatou, YIS 2025 represents a defining moment for youth leadership on the continent. “Africa’s future is being shaped today by its youth,” she said. “The Youth Impact Summit exists to ensure that the future is bold, inclusive, and led by young Africans.
