The marathon which forms part of the Bajana Congress, the annual epic gathering of the Bajana community, will take place on April 19, in Bajana, Foni Berefet village, the base of The Gambia Volunteers. The event is competed among The Gambia’s top distance runners with prospects for running in overseas events. The Gambia Volunteers was set up in 2009 with a view to encourage people to volunteer in community projects. It also targets tourists coming to The Gambia for holidays to volunteer part of their holiday time in The Gambia at community projects and schools among other things.
The Gambia Vulunteers is founded by Roy Sanyang, a native of Bajana village who said the marathon this year would include a cultural display and would attract high profile personalities including diplomats and government officials. He said registration for the race is now opened and prospective runners can contact the organizers on 6696984.
