Official sources confirmed to The standard yesterday that a Gambian soldier serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan passed away over the weekend.
According to Army PRO Lt. Col Omar Bojang the soldier, Corporal Ebrima Sonko died of natural causes after a short illness.
He said plans are underway to bring back his remains to Banjul. He used the opportunity express the Army’s deep condolences to his family and the people of the Gambia.
