Competing in the under-14 category at the ITF/CAT circuit for junior players from West and Central Africa, the Gambian played heroics to inspire a gold medal finish for him in the doubles.
Another Gambian Binta Camara won bronze in the singles playing in the under-14 girls’ category. The result was greeted with happiness back in the Gambia.
Gambia Lawn Tennis Association boss Sheriff Jammeh told The Standard that the result was a source of great happiness. “It really means that Gambian tennis is in good shape and we shall do our best to even develop the young ones better,” he said.
Mr Jammeh said more and more young players could be covered in the development programme of the association if there adequate infrastructure in the country. “Imagine if there are at least six good tennis courts in the country,” he lamented.]]>
