Where politics divides, tragedy unites. The Gambia Democratic Congress and its ally APRC splinter faction have extended condolences to their bitterest political foes the NPP on the death of five supporters of the party in a road accident on Wednesday.
The condolence message reads: “The flag-bearer of The Gambia Democratic Congress and No Alliance Movement has been informed of the tragic accident involving an NPP vehicle which claimed the lives of five NPP supporters with many others sustaining injuries. The vehicle was on its way to the nomination of the party’s presidential candidate.
“It is in this regard that the GDC and No Alliance Movement under the leadership of Mamma Kandeh wish to extend our deepest heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families and loved ones of the dead persons and the entire NPP political party under the leadership of President Adama Barrow.
“While we mourn with the president and family members for the losses, we pray that Allah grants the departed souls eternal bliss and heal the injured ones. May Allah equally grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.”
Meanwhile, at all his public functions yesterday, President Adama Barrow sent condolences to the families of his dead supporters and called for prayers for the souls of the departed.
The accident was reported to have occurred near Kwinella, Kiang. The deceased and the injured NPP supporters came from the Upper River Region.
