The Gambia Democratic Congress has condemned the arrest of Dr Ismaila Ceesay and warned President Adama Barrow’s government against infringing on the rights people.
In a statement sent to this medium, the GDC stated: “Gambians will never allow anyone to take us back to dictatorship. We have suffered enough for the past 22 years and enough is enough. We cannot afford to have a dictator anymore.”
“Just a few weeks ago, the Information minister told BBC in an interview that the greatest achievement made by the Barrow government is the freedom of speech and freedom of expression and Barrow must not destroy that,” the release read.
President Barrow, the release added, should concentrate on the country’s security and development. “Innocent Gambians are dying everyday and armed robbers are striking, robbing Gambians on a daily basis, yet the government cannot solve these problems, instead they want to start arresting and intimidating people for merely expressing their views. This is totally unacceptable,” the release concluded.
