A tragic rape case in Lamin Village on Monday resulted in the death of an eight-year-old girl.
The victim, name withheld, was said to be in the house when the suspect jumped through the window, raped her and then fled.
According to police sources, a 22-year-old is being held as a suspect but investigations into the matter have just started and far from conclusive.
Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Foday Conta, said yesterday that a post mortem will be conducted on the dead girl this morning to fully ascertain the cause of death.
”But for now the suspicion is that death occurred as result of the sexual attack. The police scientific unit too are examining the clothing of the victim for possible clues,” Conta said.
Meanwhile, the news of the calamity has shocked the people of Lamin and child rights activists.
“This ishorrible and despicable,” one activist told The Standard last night.
