The delegation is headed by Coach Mariama Sallah and has already arrived in Mauritius for the continental championship, which begins today and ends on Saturday.
The four athletes are Edrissa Marong (800 and 200m), Momodou Sey (100m), Sulayman Manneh (100 and 200m) and Sengan Jobe (200m).
Shortly before their departure, the first Vice President of GNOC and IOC Member Beatrice Allen advised the athletes to be good ambassadors of the country at the games.
She said: “Olympic values are not about winning alone, but participation itself is important, though you must strive for success at all times.”
Coach Mariama Sallah thanked the GNOC for making their dream a reality by funding their trip to Mauritius.
“We actually wanted to send seven athletes and two coaches but owing to limited funds and lack of timely response from MoYS we were forced to settle for four athletes and a coach, fully sponsored by GNOC, covering air tickets and allowances,” Sallah said.
Team captain Edrissa Marong thanked GNOC for facilitating the trip and vowed to give their best in Mauritius.
