Gov’t regrets Hamat’s Senegal comments

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of The Gambia has learnt with a deep sense of regret, the unfortunate comments made by the Minister of Tourism and Culture during the ‘Day of Free Movement of Goods and Persons in Senegambia’, held in Karang on 1st March 2018.

On behalf of the Government of The Gambia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to convey its unreserved apology to the Government and People of the Republic of Senegal for any distress caused as a result of these comments. The Government of The Gambia reiterates its commitment to a fraternal relations with its neighbour, based on mutual respect and aligned goals.

The Government of The Gambia values the excellent relations shared with the Republic of Senegal and it is in this spirit that the Ministry hopes and believes that the two brotherly nations will continue to interact closely and in doing so, strengthen the ties between them for the benefit of their peoples; who are in fact one people in two states, bonded by a deep rooted history, culture and heritage.
