The Minister of Information Demba Jawo yesterday confirmed to The Standard that henceforth permanent secretaries, director generals and chairpersons of boards under government institutions will no longer have the privilege of travelling on first class.
According to Minister Jawo, Finance ministry proposed it as a measure to cut cost and has now been approved by cabinet.
“So I am sure the line ministry, the ministry of finance is now working on the modalities to put it in place. It is designed to save costs on official traveling,” minister Jawo told The Standard.
The issue of foreign travel by government officials have been a subject of intense debate among Gambians of late with many expressing concern that official travelling has to be necessary and must not come as a big cost to the taxpayers.
