The Gambia Revenue Authority, GRA, under the supervision of their commissioner general, Yankuba Darboe, who placed sensitisation at the top of his agenda, will host “a mega regional taxpayer seminar” in the Upper River Region.
The event which targets to bring together business community, regional and local authorities, will be held on 26 and 27 September at the Basse Regional Education Office. The forum is organised by the Education Taxpayers Unit under the Gambia Revenue Authority.
The forum aims to sensitise the public on the importance, benefits and the impact of timely tax payment. The forum also aims to accord the taxpayers the opportunities to interact with GRA officials, share concerns and clear doubts on the importance of tax paying and encourage voluntary tax compliance.
An official of the authority noted: “As the main revenue collecting agency, GRA is the main contributor to the financing of public expenditure. Thus GRA remains ever committed to ensuring that the authority plays its rightful role in mobilising the required financial resources for the realisation of the development aspirations of the country.
“The revenue collecting system continues to receive the attention of the board and management of GRA to ensure that the GRA maximises revenue collection through the efficient and effective administration of taxes. As we can all see, the authority continues to register positive annual revenue growths since its start of operation in 2007.”
