Guaranty Trust Bank on Saturday defeated Access Bank 3-1 in post-match penalty shootouts at the Independence Stadium to lift the Governor’s trophy competed annually by all banks in The Gambia.
The tourney is organised by the Central Bank of The Gambia in memory of the late legendary Central Bank Governor, Famara Jatta.
Speaking to journalists after the match, the coach of Guaranty Trust Bank, Basiru Sanneh thanked his boys and praised the Bank’s management for the encouragement. “I thank and congratulate the entire staff of GT Bank and the fans for their support,” he said.
Abdourahman Saye of runners up Access Bank, his team preparation was not up to standard but all the same praised them for doing very well this year. “We shall do better next time,” he promised.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Modou Lamin Sanyang, said the overall organization of the tournament was good with a good turnout of spectators.
“I am glad we wrap the tournament successfully. There was passion, desire and commitment towards the success of the tournament compared to previous tournament,” Sanyang said.
GT Bank as champions got a giant trophy D25, 000 dalasi while the runners up Access Bank pocketed a trophy and cash amount of D20, 000.
In 2016 the Inter-Bank tournament was won by Zenith Bank.
