Haddijatou Camara

Designer/activist

A talented and fascinating designer Haddyjatou Camara is also an activist and feminist who loves Art, which includes design and photography. She is 20 years old, living in Kanifing Estate and graduated at West Africa International in 2013. Upon completion she joined the college of central London with a diploma in marketing and public relations. She is the CEO and founder of Khabrimak. Her motivation: “As a hijabi, we don’t really have designers catering for us, so that was a hole I found in the market and wanted to fill it. I am also trying to promote modesty; showing women that they don’t need to dress half-naked to be wanted or to be considered beautiful.” Most outstanding activities: “I am the coordinator for Young Entrepreneurs Association helping aspiring entrepreneurs like myself to be innovative and grow better through management, trainings and also doing networking events where entrepreneurs meet and mingle, hopefully partner. Experience in her profession: “I have been in a mentoring programme with Ndey Fatou Ceessay, a fashion designer in the Gambia. As people may think fashion design is easy but trust me it’s not. The competition is high but designs and quality are what differentiate you from others. Philosophy: “Modesty should be the only tool used to get what you want, don’t change who you are to conform to society, you don’t need to dress half-naked to be accepted.” Hobbies: “I love reading, writing, cooking and also hanging out with loved ones.” Words by Aminata Camara]]>
