By Amadou Jadama Great traditional historian and Kora player Jali Alagie Mbye died yesterday. Jali Alagie was born in Jarra Barrow Kunda to Sutayring Mbye and Aja Jabou Jagne in 1965. He attended Barrow Kunda Primary School and Mansakonko Junior Secondary School but was more interested in following his ancestral tradition of Kora playing. He researched and became well known for his mastery of the history of the Manding empire and its personalities. The late Jali Mbye traveled widely and was regularly featured on history programmes on GRTS and many state functions. He famously won a competition for translation of the national anthem into local languages sponsored by former President Jammeh. He was laid to rest at Nemakunku yesterday at a gathering attended by Information minister Ebrima Sillah and Sheriff Sheikh Muhideen Hydara who led the prayers for the departed soul. Also in attendance was Alhagie Sarjo Barrow who had a very well followed programme with the late Jali on GRTS. Many others in the media and in society who knew the late Jali attended and prayed for his soul.]]>
