News of the untimely death of the sensational drummer broke yesterday throwing the band’s followers and the larger public into mourning. Details of the cause of the death were sketchy at press time.
Fatou Jaliba Suso, wife of Jaliba Kuyateh told the band’s followers yesterday morning on Facebook: “Inna lillahi wa inna’ilayhi raj’un. Every soul that tastes life will surely taste death …. Jaliba and the Kumareh Band regret to announce the demise of Nyaw Nying the drum kit player of Kumareh Band. The burial will take place at 5:00 pm at Jeshwang just after the AGIB bank.”
“A thousand words won’t bring you back, I know, because I have tried, neither will a thousand tears, I know, because I have cried. Always on my mind and forever in my heart. Rest in peace Nyaw Nying,” Tuti Jaliba Sanyang, also a wife to Jaliba Kuyateh wrote.
Nyaw Nying was instrumental in adding the Mbalax rhythm to the kora pop that Jaliba Kuyateh has invented. His father, the late Masamba Nying, was one-time master of ceremony for former President Sir Dawda Jawara.
