Speaking to a rather curious Standard reporter, after a recent meeting of the kafo, Manlafi said the Jammeh Kunda Family Kafo was established in Bakau eight years ago with the objective of fostering close ties among the Jammeh family members; resolve family disputes and support one and another in cases of emergencies.
Since its establishment, the kafo has now spread in scope and membership with more Jammeh Kunda people in Bakau, Lamin, Gunjur and Brufut among other places joining and hosting its regular meetings.
Currently, the kafo is planning a big meeting dubbed the ”The Sabiji Meeting of Jilankolu” in Sukuta which takes place this Sunday April 13 at the compound of Demba Sawla Jammeh.
According to kafo secretary general, Abdul Salam Jammeh, it is hoped that the Sukuta meeting will galvanise the immortal ties that subsist between the Jammeh Kunda and other ethnic groups in The Gambia. “The gathering would usher in a sense of togetherness and fraternity amongst the Jammehs and other groups,” he said.
Among the prominent Jammeh Kunda people expected in Sukuta for that meeting is the Minister Alieu Jammeh, NAM Lamin Kebba Jammeh, NAM Kalifa Jammeh, NAM Pa Lamin Jatta, Governor Lamin Sanneh, Paramount Chief Demba Sanyang and Alhaji Kawsu Cham and and the alkalo of Sukuta among others. The Sukuta Meeting of Jilankolu will also offer prayers for continued peace and tranquility in the country and for Allah’s riches, blessings, guidance, good health and prosperity for the most well known of the Jammeh Kunda kinsmen of the land, President Yahya Jammeh, in his quest to make The Gambia a highly developed and a prosperous nation,” Salam Jammeh concluded.
