Three former State House gardeners, all of them former APRC green youths, have appealed to the new government to quickly facilitate the payment of their three-month unpaid salary.
Sheikh Jaw, Kebba Saidy and Modou Lamin Sanneh walked into the offices of The Standard Monday, claiming they are owed three months salary by the new government.
Explaining their plight, the men said they were part of 15 green youth members employed as gardeners at State House in since November 2014.
“When the new government came in, they asked us to go home and wait which we did. When they realised that we were part of the green youth movement, they told us they cannot work with us because we were loyalists of former president Jammeh, who created the green youth movement,” Sheikh Jaw, who spoke on behalf of others, alleged.
He further alleged that they were told their services would be terminated in December, 2017 but until now they have not heard anything from the authorities.
He said when they went to collect their salaries in December, they were handed a letter by the pay master which was not signed but indicated that the new government did not want to work with them anymore.
He said since they have not been officially terminated, they deserve to be paid for the period since December. “We want to tell the new government that we are Gambians and they should help us go back to work. We are not enemies of the nation and we were just working to earn a living,” Jaw pleaded.
