A media dispatch signed by the chairman of the IEC, Mustapha Carayol, confirmed that the commission would conduct a National Assembly by-election for Janjanbureh constituency on Thursday March 12, 2015.

“Nomination forms will be issued out to prospective candidates from Monday 2 February to Thursday 26 February 2015,” IEC announced. “These forms are free of charge and can be collected from the Election House at Bertil Harding Highway or the IEC’s regional office in Janjanbureh.”

The seat became vacant following the death in December of ruling APRC’s Foday Jibani Manka, who had occupied the position since 2007.

Janjanbureh, the administrative capital for Central River Region, is the smallest constituency in the country with under two thousand registered voters.

The provincial town has been a stronghold for the ruling party that has won the previous four National Assembly elections.
