By Mafugi Ceesay The International Republican Institute, IRI completed a two-day training for journalists and members of civil society organisations. It was designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the 2019 draft estimates. Topics such as political economy and the budget, loan administration, national budget and sustainable development goals were discussed at the training organised at the IRI offices in Fajara, and brought together more than 40 participants. Robina Namusisi, the country director of IRI, said the initiative commenced back in October this year, with the aim of enhancing fiscal transparency in the country. She said this was the reason the project is engaging both the media and CSOs across the country. “And the reform agenda include passing or amending legislations and also coming [up] with new policies.” She said the IRI would also work to build capacity of lawmakers to help enhance their understanding of their responsibilities and support the government’s reform agenda.]]>
