GDC leader Mamma Kandeh has maintained his decision to reject the December 4th presidential election results.

“I will not accept the results because they are not fair. I don’t have the power to stop Adama Barrow from being president but I will never call him to congratulate him,” Kandeh told journalists yesterday. Mr Kandeh however advised his supporters to exercise restraint and remain calm.

However, the GDC NAM for Jimara Constituency Alhagie H. Sowe, has since congratulated President Adama Barrow on his victory.

Writing on Facebook, Sowe said: “Congratulations my brother, President-elect Barrow on your victory. The Gambian people have spoken, and I respect their verdict. We may have different political affiliations, but at the end of the day we are one people aiming to better the life of the citizens of this country.

“I have no doubt that your first project will be to unite the already divided citizenry, for no president can preside over a broken state. I pray that God, the most omnipotent, continues to give you the required strength and wisdom to take this country to the dream land,” Sowe said. The party’s NAM for Niamina East, Omar Ceesay also congratulated the Gambian leader.
