The chief executive officer of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Pa Kalifa Sanyang yesterday confirmed to the Janneh Commission that his office received 25 tractors and trailers from Kanilai Group International on the basis of purchase.
Testifying before the commission, Mr Sanyang gave a brief synopsis of the various positions he held at the council in his sixteen years service with the municipal authority.
According to him, the tractors and trailers supplied to the council by KGI were given on the basis of purchase and a debit of $5,000,000 was paid to KGI by Guaranty Trust Bank. He said his office wrote to the Gambia Public Procurement Authority for approval to purchase the tractors.
CEO Sanyang further testified that to the best of his knowledge, the council had no dealings with KGI apart from the supply of the tractors which he said were also used for collection of garbage.
Documents and correspondences relating to the tractors were tendered and admitted in evidence.
Meanwhile The Standard has been reliably informed that the commission has adjourned sittings until 8 January 2018.
