Immigration PRO ASP Pa Ousman Manneh said it is true that his department has agreed to temporally suspend the issuing of National ID Cards and MRP passports, following a directive from the Interior Ministry to do so.
In a Standard exclusive yesterday, PRO Manneh said he cannot comment on why the temporal halt on one of Gambia’s most important documents.

He said the question is not for him to answer, but rather it is the job of the Interior Ministry.
“All that I can tell you is that the process in which the documents were given is clear and transparent. We do not give National documents to those who do not deserve it.

“In order to have both passport and ID, you have to go through a panel of senior immigration officers, who request for all the required documents from an applicant to make sure he or she is eligible for the document. So I think you should ask the Interior ministry as to why the halt on the document,” the PRO said.
PRO Manneh said they will continue the “good job they are rendering to the public,” adding that they will not hesitate to launch a massive document screening on check points
.
He advised both Gambians and non-Gambians alike to regularise their status.
The PRO called for patience, promising that if the temporary halt is lifted, the GID is ready to resume their job.
