Following appeals by the National Livestock Owners Association (NLOA), the Gambia’s Agriculture Minister has urged their President Ebou Jallow to write officially to the President’s Office for renaming of his Ministry to be otherwise called ‘Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.’
Responding to their appeals during meeting with NLOA at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in West Coast Region, the Agriculture Minister, Hon. Omar A. Jallow, alias OJ assured them of his support in this move and expressed the need for the NLOA to go through the right channel in order to effect such changes, saying it will add visibility to livestock.
OJ added that during a recent meeting he attended in Turkey in which 38 Ministers were present, most of those ministers have their portfolios entitled: Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
OJ further called on livestock owners to organise themselves into cooperatives, while expressing his resolve to help them set up Visaca or Credit Union, where members will have their savings with a view to sustaining economic independence.
