The Independent National Assembly member for Basse, Muhammed Magassy has confirmed he will seek re-election through the National People’s Party in April’s parliamentary elections. Magassy, who is the only NAM elected on an independent ticket at the Assembly, has been serving since 2012.
“After due consultations with the people of Basse Constituency and the executives of the National People’s Party, I hereby wish to officially declare my participation in the upcoming National Assembly elections under NPP ticket,” Magassy told The Standard.
He said the decision is in the best interest of the people of Basse Constituency.
“Having served as the elected representative of Basse for two terms as an independent, I feel satisfied and fulfilled. I am grateful for having been granted the privilege to serve in that noble House. I am made an asset thanks to their support and encouragement. I am grateful and I shall continue to serve the people of Basse in their best interest and the general interest of nation building,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude and appreciation to the people of Basse and The Gambia in general for the opportunity given to him to serve in parliament.
“It has been years of remarkable successes and community participation as well as significant learning and knowledge sharing with the people of Basse. The unflinching support from the people of Basse has given the area a new face lift, which further reinforces the adage that you are as good as your team.”
