According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 6 March 2014 while serving as a magistrate at the same Bundung court, Mr Fatty “corruptly solicited the sum of twenty thousand dalasi and a gold wrist watch” from a defendant in the matter Chimezia Julius v Patricia Fangawa before his court “under the pretext of settling the matter out of court”.
On count two, Magistrate Fatty was accused of “corruptly” receiving twenty thousand dalasis and a gold wrist watch from a defendant in the matter.
Standing in the dock, Fatty denied all the charges.
The director of public prosecutions, Saleh Barhum applied for an adjournment.
The accused who was not represented by a lawyer did not object to the DPP’s application for the adjournment. He applied for the court to grant him bail to which the prosecution did not object.
The presiding magistrate then granted him bail in the sum of D300,000 with one Gambian surety. The case was then adjourned to 2 December 2014.
