Officers of the Paramilitary Unit Tuesday night arrested a gunman believed to be a Navy officer suspected of carrying a gun at Denton Bridge, The Standard has been reliably informed.
Sources close to the security post at Denton Bridge revealed that the suspect was arrested at the checkpoint.
Army Spokesman Major Lamin K. Sanyang confirmed the arrest but declined to give further details.
This is the second time security forces are arresting people with guns. Last week a man was arrested at the Djembe Beach Hotel, the seat of the Commission of Inquiry into former President Jammeh’s financial dealings.
Major Sanyang confirmed that incident too to The Standard but clarified that the man was arrested at the Hotel at night when he came asking for water. His comportment made the security officer posed there for the commission to be suspicious and after searching him, they found a gun on him.
“Yes he was found with a gun at Djembe Hotel but it was at night and it is not clear whether his presence had anything to do with commission but investigations are on,” PRO Sanyang said.
