Police have arrested and charged one Ba Foday Jammeh with assault and causing grievous bodily harm to a Nawec disconnection team member.

A resident of Gloucester Street, Jammeh, 51, was arrested over the weekend in Banjul of allegedly striking one Ebou Jagne, an intern of the National Water and Electricity Company who was on official duty disconnecting his electricity source, causing him serious bodily harm.

Eyewitnesses said the Nawec intern was assaulted when he climbed to disconnect an ‘illegal electricity connection’ to the residence of the accused who in reaction attempted to chop off his head.

“The accused hurled insults at the Nawec man (Ebou Jagne) rushing at him with an attempt to chop off his head but he (Jagne) defended himself with his arm and sustained serious injuries,” our source alleged.

According to police PRO ASP Lamin Njie, the accused, who is fondly called Pa, has been granted bail until the victim’s medical certificate is received from the hospital when he will be expected to appear in court.

He refuted claims that the police were lenient with the assailant by granting him a quick bail.  “Everything about the case is based on due process,” PRO Njie told The Standard.
