Man in court for alledgedly raping 15-year-old

By Binta A Bah

A man has appeared at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of rape, to wit, repeatedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

Abubacarr Saidykhan, 21, is accused of raping the girl at Lamin village in the West Coast Region between July and September. According to the prosecutors, the accused raped the victim multiple times.

When the charge was read to him, he quickly denied the allegation but the presiding Magistrate Fatoumatta Jallow informed him that her court lacks the jurisdiction to hear his case before transferring it to the High Court in Banjul.

The case file is expected to be sent to the Attorney General’s Chambers for the state to file a proper charge against Mr Saidykhan.

Meanwhile, the court has ordered that the accused be remanded at Mile 2 prisons pending his appearance before a high court judge.
