The Banjulinding Anti-Crime Unit on Friday, responded promptly to a distress call from Lamin Babylon following reports of an alleged assault involving a cutlass.
According to the report shared by the police communication unit, a complainant had alleged that he was threatened and assaulted by a neighbour armed with a cutlass, prompting him to seek immediate police assistance.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding police officers discovered that the alleged suspect had already fled.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident involved members of both the complainant’s family and that of the alleged suspect. To facilitate further enquiries, the complainant and the two women involved were escorted to Mandinaring Police Station, where the matter had initially been reported, for further investigation and appropriate police action,” the police statement said.
They said the swift response by the police helped to de-escalate the situation and prevented any further confrontation that could have resulted in more serious consequences.
Speaking to The Standard on the matter yesterday, Modou Musa Sisawo, the spokesperson of the Gambia police force, said investigations into the incident are ongoing and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the alleged suspect.
He urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and through lawful means. “The public is also encouraged to promptly report threats, acts of violence, and other criminal activities to the nearest police station to enable timely police intervention” he said.
