Mansa Colley Bojang UBS observes career day

Mansa Colley Bojang Upper Basic School in Brikama Jalanbang recently observed its career day to showcase the pupils’ knowledge and ability to choose what they want to become in the future.

The colorful event attended by dignitaries, well-wishers, friends and parents was punctuated with speeches, cultural and traditional dances and presentation of different career groups (journalism, law, banking, health and medicine and the engineering).

Omar Jallow of the QTV gave an inspiring speech to the pupils who want to become journalists in the future after a performance by students in the journalist group.

Sang Pierre Mendy, Ecobank manager Brikama branch gave a speech on why it is important for children to choose their career for themselves when they are young.

He implored the students to pursue what they want to become in life with passion and vigour.

Dr Armando Correa of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital delivered a motivational speech on the path to becoming a medical doctor after students in the health and medicine group made a presentation on the importance of a healthy society in nation building.

Alieu Saine, senior education officer and registrar of GTTI, encouraged the students to acquire some basic skills on technical vocational education.

He pointed out that the various group presentations were important adding that these careers cannot be achieved without hard work, discipline and commitment.

He lauded the presentation of the engineering group and advised them to manifest their competence in their school.

Buba Khan, development practitioner gave a motivational speech on the importance of education and pointed out that the right education gives one the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world without resorting to travelling through illegal migration routes.

He thanked the parents for believing in the school and expressed his appreciation to the proprietor, Muctarr Bojang for establishing the school.

Guest speaker, Magistrate Peter Che of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court called on the school authorities to invest on career orientation so as to activate their mind in what they want to do.

He advised the pupils to find mentors to help them in choosing career paths.
