Assan Martin, one of the Independent candidates nominated for the KMC mayoral election, has formally withdrawn from the race to throw his weight behind one of the leading contender Papa Njie.
Lawyer Martin made this disclosure Thursday evening during a press conference held at Papa Njie’s campaign headquarters.
Lawyer Martin’s endorsement of Papa Njie brings to 5 the total number of would-be and actual independent candidates that endorsed Mr. Njie.
The others are Pa Coker, Aboubacarr Jeng, Gibbou Saidy and Fatima Sarr. Fatima Sarr, who withdrew from the race earlier is reported to have endorsed Papa Njie last Friday.
Meanwhile as we went to press last night, The Standard received news that the People’s Progressive Party PPP has also endorsed Papa Njie.
A representative of the party’s leadership and a former Mayor of KMC Kebba Jallow addressed a rally in Bundung on Saturday where he announced his party’s endorsement of Papa Njie and called on the residents of KMC to vote for Mr. Njie.
