Information Minister Ebrima Sillah has deplored the widespread non- compliance of regulations by private and community radio stations operating in The Gambia.
Speaking at a Gambia editors forum at the Ocean Bay Hotel Saturday, Sillah said apart from West Coast, no radio station relays the national news broadcast from GRTS radio which he said “is a flagrant violation” of the regulations governing the issuance of licenses to radios.
“This is a requirement and among the conditions stipulated by regulations so it must not be ignored,” Minister Sillah said. He explained that since independence in 1965, the regulation requires all private radios to relay news from the national broadcaster as this will enable Gambians to hear national news with wider coverage and perception.
