The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has yesterday issued a statement ordering teachers who are on a sit-down strike to return to class immediately.
The ministry threatened disciplinary action against any teacher who fails to report to their normal duties within 24 hours.
Since Monday, teachers from across the country have been on a sit-down strike and are demanding better salaries and working conditions.

However, according to the ministry, the strike comprises only a “group of teachers” and is not supported by the teachers’ union, the umbrella body of all teachers in The Gambia.
