Mozilla Club of Hackathon Girls boosted

Next Generation Foundation, yesterday handed over a cash amount of D25, 000 (twenty five thousand dalasis) to Mozilla club of Hackathon Girls.
Organised at the President’s International Award in Bakau, the cheque was designed for the girls’ summer class.

NGF program manager Lamin Saidykan, said: “We understand the money is very small but we also understand its impact is what is important here.
“I have the privilege and honour to present cash amount of D25, 000.00, to Mozilla Club of Hackathon Girls.”
He pointed out that this partnership will last “forever because NGF is always here to support genuine courses in the country and the foundation has supported quite a number of young people.

Saidykhan said NGF last year supported 8 young people’s high school education.
As indicated in the MoU between the two organisations, Saidykhan said both parties agreed to partner further in the areas of education and youth development in country.

“We are delighted to reach this historic development with Mozilla Club of Hackathon Girl,” he added.
“Three months back we had our first regional consultation on education, were we invited stakeholders to come and talk about the different areas. We invited the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to talk about access and opportunities in the education sector, Unesco and other institutions.”
The founder of Mozilla Club of Hackathon Girls, Juma Baldeh, gave a brief overview of the club, which she said is coming up with a lot of initivitates for young people.

“Basically, I thought of having this association were women and girls come together and work on projects that will advance IT in the Gambia,” she said.
Juma said the Club was grateful, and thanked NGF for the gesture and for being the first organisation to render support to the Club.
She called on others to give her organisation a helping hand in building the capacity of girls in IT.
