Bakau’s Musa Jammeh who announced his intention to run for mayor on the ticket of the United Democratic Party has withdrawn his application for to back Mustapha Touray of Bundung.
Touray is also seeking for the party’s ticket for this April’s Mayoral election.
The duo are said to have signed a memorandum of understanding by which Jammeh’s supporter will now throw their weight behind Touray in the primaries for UDP sponsorship.
Addressing the gathering on Sunday at the Semega Janneh Hall, Musa Jammeh informed the crowd that he was inspired to contest the mayoral election as a result of his desire to develop KM but he now believes
Mustapha Touray will bring about the needed changes in KM that they both desire and envision.
Mustapha Touray thanked Musa Jammeh for agreeing to form a formidable unit with him ahead of the 12th April election.
Dodou Kassa Jaata, a native of Bakau and UDP militant described UDP as a political party that believes in unity and oneness. He explained that the MoU came about after series of consultations and meetings. “The duo can separately run independently but UDP believes in unity,” he told the gathering.
Meanwhile the UDP has said where there is no consensus, all aspirants will have to go through primaries to be held in the next few weeks.
