Naccug donates sanitary items worth over D185,000 to 19 credit unions

National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions of The Gambia (Naccug) recently donated sanitary items worth over 185,000 dalasis to 19 credit unions across the country to contribute to the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking, Foday Sanyang, general manager of Naccug, said the senior management of Naccug met few weeks ago and decided that they should also contribute towards fighting this deadly virus by reaching out to the 19 credit unions across the country.
According to GM Sanyang, Naccug will be tasked to deliver the items to the respective chapters in the country.

“We purchase courtesy of our various credit unions and Naccug contributes to fight against Covid-19 and Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC)in making the face masks out of our local fabrics. This will be distributed to our credit unions. I think it is essential and will be needed. All efforts are needed to fight this pandemic,” he said.
He said when they made enquiries, they realised that some of the credit unions don’t have these sanitary items.

Alieu Bittaye, chairman board of directors, said Covid-19 has caused a global health crisis that the world has never faced. He said countries all over the world are mobilising resources and racing against time to slow down the spread of this virus.
“If any success however is to register it is obvious that it will be achieved through the observation of preventive measures as recognized and recommended by WHO and the Ministry of Health,” he said.

He added that the sanitary items worth over 185,000 dalasis are mobilized through the contribution from their own members and to be given to their own members who are less privileged and are in need of assistance.
He said Covid-19 pandemic has no boundaries and can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion.
