NEW ERA IN GAMBIAN WEIGHTLIFTING

The newly elected president of the Gambia weightlifting, bodybuilding and powerlifting association, Musa Koteh has promised a new era in the affairs for the sport.
Koteh was elected as head of a new executive spoke to The Standard on social media, saying that the first challenge for his new team will be to promote awareness among Gambian youths about weightlifting and putting in place a well organised program that will attract nation-wide participation.

”Our objective is to promote the sport and institute progammes that will provide incentives to the athletes who want to embrace the sport. Weightlifting is both self-fulfilling and a good prospect to world stardom just as any other sport,” he said. Mr Koteh said there are a lot of Gambians who do weightlifting either as pastime or just exercise some of whom can be encouraged to develop it as sport.
Mr Koteh further disclosed that with the proliferation of gyms around the country, it will be easy to recruit, train and maintain a good selection of Gambian weight- lifters that can compete on behalf of the country as well as serve as models to the young ones. He welcomed his executive members and urged them to collective work to give a new leash of life to the sport.
