No Gambian victim in Medina Gounas fire

No Gambian has been known to be among last week’s fire victims Medina Gounas, police sources said yesterday.
The fire killed over twenty people at popular religious gathering called Dacca in the Senegalese town of marabouts.

Thousands of worshippers including Gambians regularly attend the Dacca and since the news of the accident, concern has grown over the fate of Gambians who may have made the journey.

”We have so far not got any report about any Gambian among the dead,” Police PRO Inspector Foday Conta, responded to The Standard’s enquiries last night. Dozens of people lost their lives when fire broke out at the height of proceedings in the town trapping people at a confined place, witnesses told the media. The scene was visited by President Makcy Sall who expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
