Omar Sey Memorial tourney starts

The maiden edition of the late Alhaji Omar Sey memorial tourney got underway last night with Gamtel taking on Marimoo at the Independence Stadium while newly crowned title holders Brikama United host Armed Forces at the Box Bar.

This evening, Fortune FC will entertain GPA in Brikama as Real de Banjul hosts Hawks in a Banjul derby also to be played at the Stadium.

The tournament is being played among the top eight finishers in the just ended 14-team first division league championship. The teams are divided into two groups of four playing in a round robin format.

The group winners will play in the final scheduled for 3rd July at the Independence Stadium at 8pm.

Omar Sey memorial tournament is conceived by the GFF Executive Committee to remember Mr Sey who is credited for creating and baby-sitting Gambia’s participation in major international sports events. He was a leading member of the African Football Confederation, CAF.
