At its maiden student mentorship forum in The Gambia, the African Leadership Organisation, publishers of the African Leadership Magazine, Africa Energy and Infrastructure Magazine, and Amazons Watch, have awarded four deserving students full scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies at any university of choice in The Gambia.
The award presentation was the highlight of the event on Saturday at the Black Magic Café, where the CEO/MD of Global Properties, Saul Fraser, and the Managing Editor of the African Leadership Magazine, Kinsley Okeke addressed students on the theme of leadership and life lessons.
The West Representative for The Gambia and Senegal for the organisation, Muna Jallow, said she was glad that the organisation is shifting focus on the potentials of the Senegambia region.
“When I met them in London and got to know about the remarkable work they do for Africa and Africans, I felt obliged to bring the organisation to the region,” Ms Jallow said. “My next target is to bring the African Leadership Summit to either The Gambia or Senegal.”
The event brought together students from select high schools, the University of The Gambia, and the American International University. Mr Fraser and Okeke used stories of their personal journies to inspire the students.
The mentorship programme is part of events lined up for the visit of the Chairman and top executives of the African Leadership Magazine, which is in the country to publish a special exclusive edition on the tourism attractions and investment potentials of the country. They have interviewed the president and other distinguished personalities in both the public and private sectors.
The organisation also hosted its maiden business forum in The Gambia on Thursday at the SDKJICC, which was attended by the Vice President of the Republic, Dr Isatou Touray.
The theme of the discussion was cross-border trade in Africa. The panelists included the representatives of the IMF and UNDP, the Managing Director Designate of Trust Bank Ltd, and Abdoulie Baks Touray, the Chairman of the Sahel Investment Group.
