President Barrow expected to inaugurate UK Jarra science lab

The president of the Republic of the Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, this Saturday 14th April 2018, is expected to grace and preside over inauguration ceremony of a newly built Science and Computer Lab at Soma Senior Secondary School in Lower River Region (LRR).

The multimillion dalasi Science and Computer Lab project is meant among others, bridging the gap between science and computer education and other academic and professional disciplines across the country and the globe at large.

The project according to organizers of the program will not only introduce students of the regional school into the world of science and computer, but will also significantly contribute towards sustainable human resource development of the area and beyond, especially students desiring to venture into such noble disciplines as science and information technology.

The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a mega fund raising kora show with Jaliba Kuyateh, the King of Kora, who doubles as goodwill Ambassador of The UK Jarra Association. Proceeds of the show will be used to improve and equip the Maternity Ward of the Soma Regional Hospital.

The UK Jarra Association is a community or regional humanitarian association of natives of Jarra, stretching from Jarra Jiffin in the West to Pakaliba in the East, with the objective of contributing their quarter towards sustainable development of the region, the country and humanity at large.

According to Buka Dembajang, an executive member of the association, the project is timely and important for people of the region and the country as a whole and urged its beneficiaries, the students to make maximum use of it, cognizant of the importance of science and technology in this globalised community.

Mr Dembajang gave detailed objectives of the association, interventions made since its establishment to date, including preparations for inauguration of the cited science and computer lab project.
He added that membership of the association is open to all natives of Jarra, including those at home and abroad and they could contribute towards its development in their various capacities.
