According to Dr Edward Green, a consultant at the MRC who along with medical officer Mary Grey-Johnson signed the medical report, the girl was presented to the MRC outpatient department a year ago suffering from chest pain, shortness of breath, fever and weight loss which started about a year previously.

The medical report indicates that a cardiac ultrasound scan showed that Isatou had a severe heart disease caused by rheumatic fever which can strike any young child without warning. It also said the rheumatic fever has caused the following heart abnormalities: A dilated left atrium and ventride with mitral valve incompetence.

Isatou is currently being treated at the MRC clinical services department but she urgently needs an operation which cannot be done in The Gambia.
