SCORPIONS STEP OVER CONGO EN ROUTE TO GET GUINEA… match in doubt as Covid and bonus row hit Guinea

Gambia Coach Tom Saintfiet and his Scorpions have once again set the bar high in terms of expectations and will tomorrow Tuesday prove that Saturday’s 1-0 win over Congo was not a fluke. The team, or at least the troops he was able to assemble in Portugal, which had a few new names beat Congo Brazzaville with a goal from, well who else? Usual suspect Assan Ceesay. The lad who is gradually entering the Gambian history book as one of the prolific goal merchants will be closely watched again by Tom Saintfiet on Tuesday who is  expected to deploy him again in the same position as they take on Guinea. However, it took the team well into the match to make use of their long period of possession when Assan banged the goal. The coach was also impressed with his group of debutants in Noah Sonko, Abdoulie Sanyang, Musa Juwara, Babucarr Gaye and Sainey Njie.

“We have a good team and we are a strong nation. I am very proud of the team. The future for the Gambia is bright as we now have too many good players and so many talents have performed for the national team. But we will have to work harder to score more goals,” the coach told the GFF media.
