Babou Jah Owens, a reserve goalkeeper for the Serekunda West Zonal team passed away yesterday, GFF sources announced last night.
Owens was said to have suffered from a short illness. He featured in two matches for West in the current Super Nawetaan and was described as one of the zone’s finest goalkeepers in recent times. He was son of former Gambian international Lamin Owens.
Super Nawettan Organising Committee chairman Gen Lang Tombong Tamba said the boy was replica of his father’s character in sports but his short life is really sad. “We greeted each other just before their game against BEM the other day and he said to me I am the son of Lamin Owens,” Tamba said.
A minutes’s will be observed in his memory at both grounds this evening.
