Daramy was received by at least 250 Sierra Leoneans resident in Brikama and environs. The visit was the first of its kind by any Sierra Leonean diplomat to the West Coast Region capital.
In addressing the gathering, Daramy thanked his compatriots for the warm welcome accorded him and thanked President Jammeh for creating the environment for Sierra Leoneans to live in The Gambia in peace and harmony.
His visit was facilitated by ‘Friends of Ernest Bai Koroma Gambia (FEBKG) association. Speaking to The Standard at the occasion, the chairman of FEBKG, Edward Yaya Conteh, described the visit of Ambassador Daramy to Brikama as significant as it has accorded the Sierra Leonean community in Brikama to get to know the new high commissioner.
“The Gambian has always been very generous to the Sierra Leoneans, especially the refugees who fled the civil war to come here,” he said. Since the war ended about more than a decade ago, many of the refugees have made The Gambia their home, according to Mr Conteh.
