This came barely weeks after Mr Sam-Sumana, 53, was expelled from the ruling party following his fall out with President Bai Koroma.
“I don’t feel safe this morning as vice president,” the US-based Associated News agency quoted him as saying on Saturday.
The vice president is accused by his party of trying to form a new party. Two weeks ago, he said he was putting himself in quarantine for 21 days after one of his bodyguards died of the Ebola virus.
The government authorities confirmed to the BBC that police and army forces sent to the vice president’s residence on Saturday morning were to “strengthen the quarantine”.
Mr Sam-Sumana’s whereabouts meanwhile remain a mystery. He is said to have sought refuge at the US embassy in Freedom.
