The eight officials of the State Intelligence Service, who are standing trial at the High Court in Banjul, yesterday denied taking part in the secret burial of Solo Sandeng, a political activist who died in state custody after staging a protest demanding electoral reform in April 2016.
Quasy Mendy, Leon Gomez, Lamin Bojang, Manlafi Jarju, Bakary Jammeh, Ansumana Manga, Mamudou Badjie and Yankuba Colley are alleged to have taken part in the secret burial of Mr Sandeng’s corpse knowing he was unlawfully killed with intent to conceal a felony and thereby committing an offence.
The new bill of indictment filed by the state counsel, AM Yusuf, alleged that the incident happened on or about 15 April 2016 at the Tanji facility of the then National Intelligence Agency.
Counsel Yusuf appealed to the trial judge, Justice Sainabou Wadda-Cisse, to grant an adjournment to enable him to call his witnesses. The trial judge accordingly adjourned the matter to 4 July 2018 for hearing.
