Speaking at the occasion, the managing director and proprietor of SK Jaiteh and Sons, Salifu Jaiteh, said they were very distressed about the natural disaster which has promptly inspired them to intervene in the relief efforts.

He noted with sadness the loss of lives, destruction to houses and personal belongings and the displacement of people.

“It has been our tradition to respond to this kind of situation, to make our people comfortable again,” knowing that government cannot do it all alone, Mr Jaiteh said.

He praised the Basse Area Council for leading the relief efforts and urged all who can to help the victims.

In response, Yuba Jawara thanked Mr Jaiteh and his company for what he called a patriotic gesture.

He disclosed that Mr Jaiteh has set a very good example that should inspire many others to do similar things since the council and government alone cannot meet all the needs at one time.

Mr Jawara said a lot of communities have been affected in the region but the intervention by Mr Salifu Jaiteh will significantly make life comfortable again for the victims.
